Adoption Pupdate! Cotton was adopted after 5 years at the shelter!!! I photographed her years ago, during a trip with my friend @susiesseniordogs (SSD) at the @calhouncountyhumane in Alabama. Somehow, Cotton kept being overlooked. That was until SSD decided to give her another push. Over the holidays, she visited her again in AL (shelter pic and video are from SSD), and featured this sweet, loving girl. When Megan saw Cotton’s story, she knew what to do: hop in her car and drive to make Cotton hers. I am so in awe of SSD’s tireless work for the overlooked seniors. .
Here is an update from Cotton’s new mom, @megant010: "Cotton is pure love. She loves being alive, even though she’s had a rough life. She was at the shelter for five years before I saw her on SSD. The shelter took amazing care of her.
As soon as I met her I wondered how no one else had ever realized how amazing she was. Was it because she was a pit bull? Was it because as the years dragged on people thought she was 'damaged goods?' Was it because she had been at the shelter for so long and they thought it would be a hard transition for her to learn to be in a home? Everything about Cotton is easy.
The 2-hour car ride home from the shelter was easy. Once we got home she curled up next to me on the couch and wanted love. Even though she was a little nervous, she basked in the attention. Her first night she stayed in her bed the entire night. She did wake up a couple of times but she just looked up at me and then fell back asleep. She’s one of the easiest transitions I’ve ever experienced in my many years of senior adoptions.
Cotton had all the makings of a potentially 'hard' transition but she was so ready to be in her forever home that she adapted quickly. But even if she hadn’t adjusted as quickly as she has, she’s worth it. My life is already better because of Cotton, and I have no doubt it will continue to get even better because of her. I’m so glad @calhouncountyhumane knew she was special. I’m so grateful other potential adopters thought she would be hard and gave me the easiest love I could ask for." .
